 FUN FACTS: They descend from the survivors of a shipwrecked Spanish galleon off the coast of Assateague Island (Virginia/USA). The annual round up of these wild ponies, known as Pony Penning, features the ponies swimming across Assateague Channel at low tide and is a popular tourist attraction.
